NEWLA Weekly Honors for May 5, 2008

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Shannon Manning, Bridgewater State
(Sophomore, Midfield - Framingham, MA)
Manning led BSC to the NEWLA Tournament championship as she scored
eight goals and tallied five assists for 13 points in the Bears'
wins over Westfield State and Castleton State. She also notched
five draw controls in the two games. In BSC's semifinal win over
the Owls, Manning set the Bears' single-season assist record as she
eclipsed Paula Habel's mark of 47 assists set back in 2002. Manning
then broke Habel's single-season scoring mark in the Bears' 19-5
championship game win over the Spartans as she became the first
player in BSC's women's lacrosse history to reach the century mark
for points in a season.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Meghan Griffin, Bridgewater State
(Sophomore, Goalie - Billerica, MA)
Griffin was stellar in goal for the Bears as she helped lead her
squad to the 2008 NEWLA Tournament title. Griffin posted a 6.50
goals against average and turned aside 23 shots in the Bears' wins
over Westfield State and Castleton State. She registered 16 saves
in BSC's 22-8 semifinal win over Westfield and seven saves in the
Bears' 19-5 championship game victory over Castleton.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Jenny Jones, Bridgewater State
(Freshman, Attack - Framingham, MA)
Jones tallied seven goals and two assists for a total of nine
points to help lead BSC to the NEWLA Tournament championship. Jones
scored threed goals in the Bears 22-8 semifinal win over Westfield
State. She then notched four goals and two assists in BSC's 19-5
championship game win over Castleton State. In the win over
Westfield, Jones set the BSC rookie goal scoring mark as she
eclipsed Stacie Dufour and Laura Swart's record of 53 goals set in
2000.
